TrenchLock

Introducing the Trench Drain Inserts, Block Radon Gas and Odors Serving Post Falls, Coeur d'Alene, Spokane, and neighboring areas!

Trench drains manage unwanted water, but now they also address radon.

A trench drain is a linear channel featuring a U-shaped profile and covered by a drainage grate. Installed flush with the basement floor, it is positioned at the foot of an exterior stairway, commonly providing access to the basement through a leaky bulkhead or hatchway door. The trench drain is employed to manage unwanted water and is usually connected to either a drainage channel or directly to a sump pump to eliminate collected water at the base of the exterior stairway.

Regrettably, trench drains have unintentionally led to the infiltration of air from drainage channels and the ground into homes. This ground air may contain hazardous radon gas, a naturally occurring radioactive gas. In the U.S., there are approximately 8 million homes with radon levels considered dangerous by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Balls of the appropriate weight and size effectively block gases from escaping through the holes when the drain is dry. As water flows, the balls float, allowing for effective drainage.

Introducing the TrenchLock™ Solution

TrenchLock™ trench drain inserts, exclusively designed by Basement Systems, act as a barrier to prevent unwanted ground air and gases from entering the basement and, ultimately, your home. This innovative, patent-pending design allows water to pass through while effectively blocking the upward flow of air.

Perfect for Homes with Radon Mitigation Systems

In homes with radon mitigation systems, a fan integrated into a PVC pipe stack depressurizes the soil under the slab and vents radon gas outside. A conventional trench drain could ‘short-circuit’ the depressurization field, rendering the mitigation system ineffective and allowing radon gas into the home. Trench drains equipped with TrenchLock™, however, will not interfere with a radon mitigation system.

TrenchLock™ is just one of the ways Basement Systems dealers work hard to ensure dry basements and prioritize the health and safety of homeowners. Similar to many Basement Systems products, TrenchLock™ is exclusively available to Basement Systems’ international network of dealers.
