The first step involves excavating a sump pump pit to accommodate the liner and pump. This safeguards the sump pump from mud and debris present around the pump pit.
It’s crucial to ensure that the sump pit is adequately sized—not too small nor too large. If placed in a small pit, the sump pump may pump water out faster than it can fill the liner, leading to frequent cycling and premature burnout.
Excessively large sump pits can extend too deeply into the ground, leading to unnecessary energy consumption and effort in pumping water far below your home.
For optimal effectiveness, sump pumps should be positioned in the lowest area of the basement floor to efficiently remove water from underneath.

This drain system serves a critical purpose: it collects water from various sources, including the basement wall-floor joint, the basement walls, and from beneath the basement floor. The collected water is then directed to the installed sump pump for removal.

In the event of a secondary pump installed in the pit, an additional discharge line is necessary. It’s crucial to note that discharge lines should never be interconnected on the inside of your home.
